DESCRIPTION:Students at the University of Maine atFarmington will present the first-ever campus student production of “The SacredProstitute and Other Plays” by Mina Loy. Written nearly 100 years ago by Loy\,an artist\, poet\, playwright\, feminist and entrepreneur\, the illuminating playsexplore many of yesterday’s and today’s issues with ribald and provocativehumor.  \n This next stop on the world premiere tour willtake place on Thursday thru Sunday\, April 4\, 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m.\, and April 7at 2 p.m.\, in the Performance Space in the Emery Community Arts Center.  \nDirected by Melissa C. Thompson\, UMF associateprofessor of Visual and Performing Arts\, the plays include\, “Collision\,” “Cittàbapini\,”“Sacred Prostitute” and “The Pamperers.” They were written inthe early 20th century and are as much literary as theatrical. Loy’swork pushes the boundaries of modern art\, music and stage design. \nAdmission is $8 for the general public\, $7 for seniors and $5 for students with student I.D. Location: Performance Space\, Emery Community Arts Center. DESCRIPTION:Vocalist Christine Correa along with her collaborators Sam Newsome\, Michael Sarin\, Kim Cass and Andrew Boudreau revisit and re-imagine rarely performed compositions by percussionist Max Roach who would be celebrating his centennial in 2024.  This music\, with lyrics by Oscar Brown Jr\, is drawn from Roach’s Freedom Now Suite and Percussion Bitter Sweet recordings of the 1960’s from a period in Roach’s career when he was deeply engaged in the struggle for civil rights and freedoms.  Location: Emery Community Arts Center. DESCRIPTION:ArtsFarmington  is pleased to present 2 movies with Buster Keaton: “ONE WEEK” \, a short  film\, and “SHERLOCK Jr.” the main feature. The movies will be  accompanied by musician Doug Protsik on OLD TIME PIANO. The performance will take place on Saturday\, January 27\, at 7PM in Emery Community Arts Center\, with a snow date of Sunday\, February 4\, at 7PM. \nBuster Keaton\, a silent movie actor of the early 1900s\, is a master of mime\, humor and daring stunts. In the short movie a just married couple is putting together\, in one week\, their first house from a kit\, with lots of tribulations! In the main feature Keaton plays the character of a projectionist of a theater who does double duty as custodian and\, on top of that\, is studying to be a  detective. Too much to attend to can cause  trouble! He is in love and a crime is committed by a rival… Both movies are bound to make you laugh and bring a smile to your face and warmth to your heart.
