SUMMARY:Live Music with Liam Grant & Glenn Jones
DESCRIPTION:Emery Community Arts Center welcomes guitarists Liam Grant and Glenn Jones for a concert on Saturday\, April 5th at 7:00pm in Emery’s performance space. Liam Grant is a New England guitarist with a punk ethos\, cut from the American Primitive cloth. The restless guitar explorations\, modal epics\, and driving up-tempo rags recall the likes of Grant’s pedagogue; Takoma Records\, and the path that was paved by his forebears John Fahey\, Robbie Basho\, Peter Walker\, Max Ochs and later Glenn Jones\, Steffen Basho-Junghans\, Jack Rose\, and others. Glenn Jones is a veteran guitarist from the cult post-rock ensemble CUL DE SAC and innovative fingerpicker who has spent the last two decades cultivating an idiosyncratic vernacular for guitar and banjo across ten critically acclaimed solo albums. Steeped in both American Primitive guitar music as well as rock and experimental music\, Jones creates rich sonic tapestries with a distinct and stirring voice.Location: Emery Community Arts Center. FREE. Open to the Public. Sponsored by: Emery Community Arts Center. Contact: Ann Bartges\, 207-778-7461\, ann.bartges@maine.edu. https://wpsites.maine.edu/emerycommunityartscenter/

SUMMARY:Art Exhibit\, "Holobiont: Woodcut Prints by Amanda Lilleston"
DESCRIPTION:“Holobiont” presents a selection of woodcut prints and collages by Maine-based artist\, Amanda Lilleston. A holobiont is a host organism and its associated organic community that functions as a single ecological unit. Inspired by the interconnected systems of biology and physiology\, Lilleston uses woodcut printmaking as a tool to explore the mutuality between the world and the bodies it continually shapes. Through drawing\, relief carving\, and printing\, she transforms imagery of the body and landscape into shifting and evolving compositions\, investigating the idea of self and what that means in an interconnected environment. Lilleston is an Assistant professor of Art at Cooby College and has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally including the International Triennial Colour in Graphic Arts in Torún\, Poland; Boston Printmakers North American Print Biennial; the Atlanta Print Biennial; the Zillman Art Museum\, and upcoming participation in the DI CARTA / PAPERMADE 6th edition: International Contemporary Art Biennale at the Museo Civico Palazzo Fogazzaro in Schio\, Italy. \nHolobiont will be on view in Emery Community Arts Center from Jan. 30-March 8\, 2025. Gallery Hours: Mon.-Sat.\, 12pm-6pm; closed holidays and university breaks. Location: Emery Community Arts Center. FREE. Open to the Public.
