B.S. Degree with a major in Elementary Education

Teach, Inspire, and Make a Difference

The University of Maine at Farmington’s Elementary Education program equips you with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to become a caring and effective teacher.

At UMF, Elementary Education students gain hands-on experience from day one through local job and volunteer opportunities. The program begins with a First Year Experience course, letting students start fieldwork early.

In the sophomore year Practicum, students combine coursework with significant classroom experience, learning teaching methodology while working directly with children. The program culminates in a senior-year Student Teaching capstone—an immersive 16-week experience in a public school or early childhood setting, mentored by UMF faculty and a professional teacher, often cited by students as the most meaningful part of their education.

Save more than $5,500 per year in tuition.

Through the NEBHE Tuition Break program, students from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont receive a $5,670 tuition discount on all UMF degree programs.
